Did I mention?

This blog contains commentary on my life at college and at home. I have been recently including my pursuit for a better resident life here at my own school. This will be an ongoing theme among many posts intertwined with various other issues.

Tuesday I am going to purchase the iBook G4. I have already ordered a HP all in one Printer etc, and a wireless router so that I can have wifi here at my house. Apple is really just simplicity meets convenience meets latest technology for a nice price of 1100.00

Tomorrow I am going to take a trip to Circuit City and purchase a USB Drive ( 256 MB ) .

After reasearching the PowerBook G4 by Apple , I decided to purchase instead the very newly updated iBook G4 . It will suit all my needs and cost me nothing. My grandparents agreed to give me $1200.00 for a laptop and this is going to cost almost 1200.00 exactly.

Now I will have almost 500$ more to spend at college.

As I had hoped and predicated, Lance has now won his 7th consecutive Tour de France. I always thought I would some day be able to see him ride in a race, but that thought has come to what I think is a premature end. I will personally miss him racing and each day following his progress. Though I doubt this is the last we will see of Lance, having several contracts and endorsement deals lined up. What makes me feel that Lance is really one of the most inspiring athletes of our time is that he can go out and make 30-40 million dollars on an endorsement but then just so humbly turn such high offers down. What sets him apart from say Michael Jordan is that Lance stands for something, he is making an impact on so many peoples lives.

To me Lance is the fighter we all would want to be. He can now rest in the comfort of his well appointed home with his rock star wife and kids, but then still go out and make a difference to so many people.

As I said before, this is not the end of Lance Armstrong's public image, but rather a new chapter in what could be an even more successful life. Whether it be supporting cancer research and advocating new products and tests etc, or rather to just keep inspiring people to get out and be more physically active in there everyday life. Lets not forget, he also has done and will continue to do a world of good to the sport of cycling, putting the sport on the map. Can anyone before Lance Armstrong actually say they had any interest in the Tour de France or cycling in general for that matter?

Congratulations Lance on doing what no other man or woman has ever done before.

Cant Be Done

Well, how do you beat a previous entry like that? Not for its grammatical precision but rather for the content and the great times that lye behind the motivation for writing it.

Looking back now at those events and the experience as a whole, I could not be more content with the situation.

-

For those of you know where I am while writing this, things are OK for now. :) , as my relatives would say "No worries mate!" . I will do what I can to survive and if need be adapt. I need to get issues out there on the table, let them fall as they may.

The Low Down ...

Today I just came back from orientation at my school. My grandparents and I drove up to Newton a day early( Sunday) to stay at a hotel and then go in the morning to the school.

I will admit I was nervous about going to this, of course not knowing anyone and really haven’t a clue as to what I was doing aside from following everyone else. After the opening speeches from the Dean and who ever else, we broke up into groups.

After meeting up with our groups as we were assigned by numbers (groups 1-10 , I was 8) we began doing a few ice breakers. After that we began to tour the campus, meet up with people and take placement tests. It wasn’t until after the placement tests and a few hours later where everyone was waiting around in a stairwell that people began to talk and come out of there shell. More intelligent and longer conversations began. I had called a friend on my cell phone out of anxiety of this entire situation. He said to me I needed to either take a firm stance on making friends and having a good time, or just be able to “get by.” From then on I decided I was going to make attempts to have real conversations with people.

Though I had talked with everyone in my group all day at least small talk, I began to really have good conversations with people and everyone including myself let there guard down.

At dinner I sat with the football type guys and the “already declared cool guys”. This was something that I hadn’t expected to do but one of the guys in my group is “one of them” and asked me to join him and his buddies at dinner. That was good because I was able to bounce in and out of already formed different social groups.

After dinner the groups all went to see a comedian in the gym. This is when I think the point of just talking to people to knowing people and spending actual time with them began. I was having a good time with a lot of people from my group as the comedian got the crowd how you say ... hands on with one and other. Now make no mistake, this didn’t turn into some sexual orgy of any sort but rather trust exercises that really allowed for people to be more of them selves and have a good time.

After that there was a socializing with a DJ and dancing on the dance floor until 1:00 am. From about 10:00 to 2:00 am I was hanging out with about 3 or 4 people that had been in my group. Hanging with these people really brought me out of my element and comfort zone as I will admit they were all girls and girls who enjoyed dancing and having a good time but also just talking and learning about one and other. So if you are asking whether I was dancing at all that night, the answer is yes as I was "dragged" onto the dance floor by a few people. :) To my complete surprise it was a lot of fun. After that and the heat being what it was we all sat down and hung out. We began to really talk and enjoy each others company.

Around 2am we parted ways and went to sleep, all in the same dorm but on different floors. I sit organizing my things when a guy from my group came into my room as my door was open and just asked how things were going. We began talking and one hour later we decided to be room mates. He shares some of the same theories and values as I , not being the biggest drinker on campus and fairly against drugs. Though I don’t care what others do, I just don’t want certain things in my room constantly, let the occasional thing happen that’s ok.

At around 315 a.m my room mate for the night came in and he was pretty cool. He plays soccer and is on a part scholar ship. We went to sleep around 3:30 and woke at around 8 am. I got dressed, washed up and went downstairs to the cafe where some of my friends were sitting and eating breakfast. After they were done eating they decided to go to the campus store. I stayed back in the cafe as the girls and guys I was hanging with from last night came down to the café. I decided to get breakfast with them. We then gathered back in our groups and went on to sign up for classes an hour after breakfast ( 9am) . After that there was a BBQ and then a closing ceremony. By 3:00 my grandparents showed I packed my stuff, turned in my key and left in the car back to hotel where I took a much needed shower and nap.

The bottom line is that I met some cool people, I have a excellent impression of the school it self and can see myself doing well there. Overall things are looking up college wise.

Stating the Obvious

After a long discussion with a friend last night, I realize even more so of what college will mean to me and perhaps all of us.

For me it is that clean slate I have been looking for, I can be who I want and totally change the kind of person I am. I have the ability to leave anything of my past behind. With new people, I can merge into different social groups if I so choose.

Socially, things can only get better as I make new connections and bond with new people. It is rather exciting.

What a great feeling! Better yet, what a relief.

( I plan to expand on this topic after orientation which is coming up )

Well it appears that the trip to Australia which would be this week will be pushed to the first week of August. I am now not medically cleared with a TB test coming back as questionable @ 7mm and with lyme disease I am still unsure how bad that will get. I also have a EMT test on July 23rd and orientation 18th-19th of July.

So..... I am disappointed to be missing the wedding but I will see them all in August.

PowerBook Update : Should be ordered by July 22nd

Update

Last night a friend and I set off some pretty good fireworks. I thought one fuse didn't light so I went to re light it and I almost took my arm off but thankfully I was able to get out of the way. Damn fuses tricking me! I love the 4th of July.

With in 2 weeks I should be the proud owner of a G4 12' inch Powerbook. I have settled the issues around that and plan on placing the order soon. I also get a free mini ipod with order, which I may turn around and sell. Hopefully I will get to know the OS and get the software I need from a friend with plenty of time to learn it all.

I just got done watching Oceans 12, not as good as Oceans 11 but still good ( 3 of 5 stars in my opinion).

Also I just got a new cell phone with Cingular so if you want the number (its a new one) just ask me.
